Africa poses great prospects for tourism, offering adventurous and historical sites rich in ancient marvels. One such location is the city of Thebes, situated in Egypt; the city is well known for its age and archeological values.

The history of Thebes can be traced back to the 11th dynasty of the New Kingdom of Egypt and boasts some of Egypt’s largest monuments, including Luxor, the Valley of the Kings, the Valley of the Queens and Karnak. 

Moving down the Mediterranean coast, Leptis Magna is an archaeological city in Libya today. Formerly used to be the largest city in Tripolitania, but it is famous for its outstanding examples of Roman architecture.

The Phoenicians established Leptis Magna and later the Carthaginians; it was expanded during the Roman Empire and Empire of Septimius Severus.

Another cultural site that Africa boasts of is the great Zimbabwe. Between the 11th and the 15th centuries, it was the heart of a large trade empire for the cattle, agriculture and gold trade.

Stone structures with well-crafted architectural designs were home to a substantial populace and a growing community. 

Ethiopia’s Lalībela is a religious wonder with 11 churches hewn out of rock during the time of Lalībela, the 12th-13th century emperor.

Underground corridors and symbols in Ethiopia link these churches; such churches are still popular among thousands of tourists during religious celebrations.

These include the House of Medhane Alem, the largest church in the country, and the House of Golgotha, which houses the emperor’s tomb.
